Construction of koi ponds with connecting creek
This backyard project takes advantage of a natural slope to create an impressive waterscape. Phase one is the construction of two ponds with a connecting creek. The water circulates out of the bottom pond (shown in photo) through a floating bead filter and back into the upper pond. Phase one also includes the construction of stone walks with steps on both sides of the stream and a stone bridge that joins the walks. Some elemental plantings add life & color to the landscape.
The stone walk and steps (not yet completed in the last photo) are both aesthetic and functional parts of the landscape. We've used large stone and interplanted the spaces between with dwarf mondo and creeping thyme to add texture and interest. The beds along the creek have the feel of a cottage garden
We begin to see a finished product in this photo which shows the stone walk and steps on the right side of the stream as well as the upper pond and waterfall behind a yellow blooming cassia tree. The beds are planted with a combination of annuals, perennials and antique roses in an exuberant display of color.
This newly planted perennial bed features a fantastic bronze fountain surrounded and enhanced by mixed daylilies, butterfly iris, blue stokesia, tangerine bulbine, variegated lysemachia and an old stand of fashion azaleas. We also added a butterfly ginger whose fragrance can be enjoyed from the porch along with the view of this impressive bed. Shady areas can be challenging, but with the right plants and some imagination they can be beautiful as well

Small spaces yield big results
This small backyard presented a challenge as it is dominated by the pool, leaving little room for anything else. The owners needed a screen from the surrounding houses and room to entertain within a relaxing and beautiful garden. We achieved these goals with a mixed bed- evergreen wax ligustrum and wax myrtle for screening with layered perennials, antique roses and a few touches of annual color. This photo, taken just after planting, shows one (of two) stone patios and an attractive iron gazebo elegantly draped with mosquito netting.
This picture shows a small section of a very large mixed bed. Nestled in this sunny wildflower area are a birdfeeder and birdbath to host the many birds and butterflies attracted to the multicolored blooms. The garden path winds around the front of the bed to a bench perfectly situated to relax and enjoy the view. East palatka hollies screen this garden retreat from the neighboring property. This beautiful garden is well suited to its location
This lakeside garden began as a large open area of turfgrass. The beds along the attractive stone path contain plants of varied heights and sizes to create interesting levels in the landscape without obstructing the lake view. These truly beautiful beds contain antique roses, daylilies, artemesia and various evergreens and perennials in combinations that are dazzling to the eye.
