The AMAZING Aloe Vera Plant

Aloe Vera is most famous for it's medical properties.  For over 6000 years Aloe Vera has been widely used to treat many health aliments.  The Egyptians called it the“plant of immortality” because of its diverse applications for literally everything.  There are records of the Egyptians drawing pictures of Aloe Vera plants on the walls of the temples, elevating the plant to an almost ‘god-like’ status.  It is undeniable -the benefits of Aloe Vera (both internal and external) seem to be endless!

Topical Uses of Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera is soothing, cooling and moistening... An application of fresh Aloe gel from inside the leaves:

•Can take away most pain from minor burns/sunburns and prevent blistering.

•Be used as a remedy for other skin conditions such as frostbite, psoriasis, cold sores, acne, rosacea, and menopause.

•Is useful as itch relief from insect bites and poison ivy

•Some also use aloe gel to help surgical wounds and bedsores heal faster.  There is some science supporting these uses since some of the chemicals in aloe gel seem to be able to increase circulation in the tiny blood vessels in the skin, as well as kill bacteria.

Aloe Vera Juice Benefits:

Aloe Vera juice is crammed full of amino acids, vitamins and minerals making it one of nature’s most effective cleansers.  It's an easy way to boost your intake!

•Nearly 20 minerals are found in Aloe Vera including: calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, iron, potassium, copper and manganese. These minerals act together to boost enzyme metabolic pathways.

•Aloe Vera contains enzymes which are vital to life and serve a wide range of important functions in the body, such as aiding in digestion and metabolism.

Aloe Vera juice has 20 of the 22 necessary amino acids required by the human body.  Aloe Vera also contains Salicylic acid which fights inflammations and bacteria (aspirin was formed on the basis of salicylic acid).

•Aloe Vera contains many vitamins including A, C, E (which provide antioxidant activity that fight free radicals) folic acid, choline, B1, B2, B3 (niacin), B6, and B12 (required for the production of red blood cells).

Aloe Vera is packed full of immune-boosting polysaccharides (over 200!) which help the immune system to behave properly.  They are the ones mostly responsible for the Aloe Vera's healing properties.  They perform many key functions in your body: acting as anti-inflammatory agents; have an anti-bacterial and anti-viral effect; enhance immune system functions such as promoting tissue growth and improving cellular metabolism.

• Detoxify & Soothe Body Naturally with Aloe Vera Juice: Aloe Vera can help strengthen digestion and is one of the best body cleansers, helping to get rid of any nasty waste products.

• Drinking Aloe juice:

• Cleanses toxic matter from the stomach, kidneys, spleen, bladder, liver,  and is the most effective colon cleanser.

Relieves indigestion, stomach problems and even ulcers.

•Helps your body relieve tissue inflammation which often causes joint pain and even arthritis.

Strengthens the digestive tract, skin and has a great effect on overall health.

Aloe Vera Cleans Air and Monitors Air Quality:

Did you know?  Aloe Vera can also help to monitor the air quality in your home!  The plant can help clear the air of pollutants found in chemical cleaning products, and when the amount of harmful chemicals in the air becomes excessive, the plants’ leaves will display brown spots.  They make excellent houseplants, provided there is enough light since they grow best with lots of sun.

Aloe Vera Characteristics:

A semi-tropical succulent, Aloe Vera is actually 95% water and so it must be protected from freezing at all costs.  During the winter, they will go semi-dormant and should be watered very sparingly.    Though drought tolerant, they prefer regular moisture with good drainage.  Older plants will send up spikes of bright coral flowers that are often visited by hummingbirds!

Note: They make excellent houseplants, provided there is enough light and they enjoy being placed outdoors for the summer.
